ACADEMIC AND CONTENT WRITING TIPS AND TRICKS

Flexibility in Online Learning

We’re about a month into the COVID-19 crisis in the U.S., and our worlds have been turned upside down. For many of us, that means working from home has become the norm, as has distance learning for students at K-12 schools and colleges and universities alike.

Chances are you left your campus for spring break and never returned––or at least never returned to the classroom. Those carefully planned syllabi have been replaced with new online learning assignments, discussions, and lectures. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the sudden shift to online learning, you’re not alone. Here are a few tips to finish the spring semester successfully during these trying times.

1. Structure Your Day

Your class may be meeting synchronously, or your professor may be posting lectures for you to watch on your own time. Structure your day around these classes. Try to stick to a similar class schedule, connecting with your class virtually at the same time and on the same days as you did in January. No need to waste time rescheduling your week––just stick to the schedule that’s familiar to you.

2. Map It Out

The end of the semester is approaching, so it’s crunch time. You have papers, exams, and assignments that are due in the coming weeks. In your extra free time (and let’s face it––you have more free time right now), design a game plan for tackling these assignments. The sooner you make a plan, the less overwhelmed you’ll be by these online tasks.

3. Stay Connected

It’s easy to feel isolated during this time. However, technology helps you stay connected, so take advantage of it. If your professor has drop-in video office hours and you have a question, schedule a chat. Arrange a study group with some classmates on a platform like Zoom. If you have the option to attend a live class online, log on. Staying connected won’t just keep you informed––it will boost your spirits, too.

Don’t forget: I’m offering 10% off to new clients for the remainder of the spring semester. I want to help as many students as I can navigate these difficult circumstances, so just mention the discount when you submit your inquiry.
