Consider your audience
When writing a document, whether it is a academic journal article or a marketing brochure, it important to consider your audience as you write. Consider these questions during document development:
- Who is my target audience?
- How familiar is my audience with the subject (i.e., what is their knowledge level)?
- What information, if any, will be new to my audience?
- What is the most important thing for my audience to understand after reading my document?
A well-written document that is not crafted for a specific audience will fall flat. Using these questions as a guide, you can develop a more effective, engaging document.
