These schools often require that students submit a letter to the graduate school that verifies their work with an editor. We are happy to submit a signed, dated letter on our letterhead with details about editing your paper. So, please don’t hesitate to ask for a letter — we provide them all of the time!

When life sent us to Lexington, Kentucky in 2009, I decided to give full-time freelance editing a try. Thanks to a few partnerships with colleges and a committed and reliable client base that continues to refer us to colleagues and friends, Carpenter Doc has blossomed. Every year, we have broadened our services and our reach, and we aim to expand even further in the coming year. The need for an editor extends beyond the traditional book or journal article. Students, web designers, and business professionals creating a presentation or marketing brochure can improve their work with an editor’s help. It is our goal at Carpenter Doc to show our potential clients that benefit and encourage them to work with us. A diverse project base established by clients from different academic and professional backgrounds results in rewarding and satisfying work.

Although editing is our focus, I’ve found a niche in freelance web writing as well. I produce articles for a number of websites, including AOL and The Huffington Post family of websites. I look forward to exploring these opportunities further in the new year and continuing to add high-quality content to the web. Finally, I plan to dedicate more time to this blog; I have a list of topics that come to mind as I write and edit, and I look forward to sharing more writing and editing tips with you this year.

Welcome to 2012!

Here’s a look back at some of Carpenter Doc’s 2011 accomplishments:

• Continued to build relationships with Barry University’s School of Nursing, where we edited dozens of dissertations and Capstone Projects for DNP students
• Edited theses and dissertations for students at a range of schools, including UCF, Nova, UK, Central Michigan University, Northcentral University, and more
• Helped several clients secure grant funding by editing grant proposals for individuals and organizations
• Edited a medical journal article for a team of professors and essays for a pottery collection at Piedmont College
• Started writing travel articles and holiday guides for AOL/The Huffington Post/MapQuest
• Started producing original online content for a number of online clients

2012 looks to be a promising year as we continue to grow our business. We have some website updates on the horizon as well as some potential long-term projects. We look forward to continuing our work with current clients and building relationships with new ones.

Most of all, we want to thank our clients for doing business with us. Editing is a collaborative experience, and we are fortunate to work with so many talented and thoughtful students, professors, business professionals, and writers. See you in 2012!

• Transcription. This is a relatively new service that we offer. Many of the graduate students we work with use interviews as a part of their thesis or dissertation research. These audio-taped interviews are very time-consuming to transcribe, but the transcription is essential in the research process. You can send us your audio-taped interviews, and we can transcribe them for you.
• Formatting. If you’re submitting a thesis or dissertation, your graduate school likely has very detailed formatting guidelines. Gaining format approval is often the first step in the arduous process of defending and graduating. Even if you don’t need us to edit your document, we can format it to align with your school-specific guidelines. We are familiar with many school’s formatting standards, including Barry University, the University of Central Florida, and the University of Kentucky. But, we can tackle any formatting project. Just send us your guidelines along with your paper.
• Writing. Will we write your academic papers for you? No. But, Barbie works as an online content writer in addition to her position at Carpenter Doc, so she can offer writing services for business professionals. Whether you want a well-written “About Us” section for your website or a blog post that promotes your company’s services, we can  help! No writing project is too small.

Now that the spring semester has closed, the team here at Carpenter Doc has some openings for summer projects! If you’re looking for a new job and need resume or cover letter help or if you’re taking classes this summer and need help with your papers, contact us! We’re ready to help.
