ACADEMIC AND CONTENT WRITING TIPS AND TRICKS

What to Expect During an Academic Edit

There’s often some trepidation from clients who haven’t worked with an editor before. While that’s certainly understandable, I can confidently say that there’s truly nothing to be afraid of when you work with me. A positive, collaborative experience is my top goal for every client.

When you receive your edited manuscript, here’s what you can expect when you begin to revise:

  • Tracked changes showing every edit. You’re the author, and you have the final say over your manuscript, so I want you to be able to see every change, which you can accept or reject individually or as a whole.

  • Comments with questions, suggestions, or areas for clarification. As the editor, I don’t want to alter the meaning of your content. So, if I’m concerned that a revision will do that, I’ll add a comment with a suggested revision instead. These comments may also highlight areas that are unclear, ask questions about the intended meaning of a sentence, and more. Take time to read these carefully, as they are just as important as the tracked changes.

  • Ongoing communication. I don’t deliver your manuscript, send the invoice, and then ghost you. Quite the opposite, in fact! I’m happy to respond to any questions about your revisions, review any revised areas of copy, make any last-minute formatting changes, and more. Every edit comes with a free 30-minute revision check.

Whether you’re searching for a new editor or working with one for the first time, I’m here to help! Contact me today to schedule your next edit!
